Life circumstances should have no bearing on the issue. If it's a case that the mother has to raise a child in poverty, the child could be put up for adoption. Also if the mothers life is in danger and the procedure required to save the mothers life results in the termination of the child that's understandable. However in cases where the procedure may or may not result in a termination there's no reason to abort the pregnancy as the child may survive. c »

The question is in relation to equal opportunities in all public sphere, including political and business. The statements try and reflect some of the current debates and traditional arguments; but point taken. On the suggested statement, the most modern egalitarian societies do have positive discrimination laws. Generally they are seen as resulting in a good rather than a good in them selves. darragh »

Thanks Vinny, This relates to the provisions that are necessary to raise a child. It is plainly hypocriticall for a state to deny access to legal abortions on moral grounds and then leave a mother to raise a child in poverty / ill heath etc. Perhaps the issue of danger to the mothers life would be better addressed in the 3rd option and a slight rewording of the second. darragh »
